Sophie, thanks for replying, where do you get the maca root? Can it be bought at a health food store? Your blog is very interesting and I would really like to give it a try, night sweats, hot flashes, weight gain, not sleeping etc. is about to get the best of me. The maca root is natural, right? I take blood pressure med and had bypass surgery in 1990 so guess there would be no danger in trying it?? Thanks again for the information and will looking foward to hearing from you.

    • Hi, Tammy!

I got my maca from Amazon.com. The brand is Peruvian Naturals Maca. They have tablets and powder forms. Their tablets have 800 mg of maca per tablet, compared to other brands that only have around 500 mg. And when you buy 3 bottles, you qualify for free shipping too. You might be able to find maca at your local health food store, but I have no idea of the price or quality, since I haven’t tired any other brands. Wherever you buy it, make sure you get 100% pure organic maca root. Here’s the link to the maca I bought from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Organic-Maca-800mg-100-Tablets/dp/B001O1XWGS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1298478526&sr=8-1

I hope it works as well for you as it has been working for me, and that you’ll be feeling all better soon.

Sophie, my daughter developed pretty bad acne in the 10th grade. Doctors prescribed antibiotics and creams, which did nothing. A dermatologist looked at her and tried to prescribe the PILL. She, at 17, did not want to go on anything that is not natural, mentioning the terrible side effects, some of which are fatal, and her concerns were brushed aside and the dermatologist determined that she would not be helped. There was no other treatment offered her. It became worse and worse, and by chance I mentioned it to one of the ladies who works at a health food store in another small community nearby. She suggested Maca Root. She said it would regulate hormones and give it time, that it would help. Well, it is two years later and my daughter is much improved. It took six or seven months for us to see a small improvement, and then there was a setback or two, but perseverance paid off. Today my daughter is looking wonderful. She wears natural mineral makeup, nothing with chemicals in it, and her skin is so much better. Not 100% yet, but you would never know that she had had such a problem. We were told there would be scarring, the skin is quite healed. She also uses a little liquid hyleronic acid as a moisturizer underneath the makeup!
Apparently this works even for boys, the Maca root. For anyone suffering from acne, please, please give it a try before using anything else! It takes some time, but slow and steady and it will work wonders! Kate

    • Thank you, Kate, for sharing your story! I’m so glad maca has worked so well for your daughter. I wish her continued healing till she’s 100%!

    • I don’t know the answer to that, Brandy. I myself have not gained weight from taking maca, and I don’t know anyone who has. I suggest reading up on it yourself.
